Ultra Vivid Picture is Kurt Ralske like Nine In . Fingernails is Trent Reznor. Although Ralske’s atmospheric artwork pop cannot sound much less like Reznor’s thudding commercial disco, both aren’t that far aside with regards to appearance; Ralske’s lyrical obsessions with such gothy standbys as sex, religious beliefs, and loss of life make the band’s three albums naturals for the mopey black-clad teen in people. Ralske was created and elevated in NY; something of the musical prodigy, he was approved in to the Berklee College of Music in Boston at age 16. Though Ralske was an achieved keyboard participant, he found fresh inspiration within the motivated amateurism from the late-’70s NY no wave picture, which had taken the “anyone can perform it” ethos of punk rock and roll to its reasonable extreme. Thus motivated, Ralske give up music college and transferred to London in 1986, picking right up your guitar and watching the city’s brand-new dream pop picture (Jesus and Mary String, My Bloody Valentine, etc.). Ralske produced a short-lived group known as Crash, named following the J.G. Ballard book, before time for NY in 1988 and putting your signature on to 4AD Information under the music group name Ultra Vivid Picture. Despite the music group name, the very first two UVS information, 1988’s Ultra Vivid Picture and 1990s Pleasure: 1967-1990, had been basically single albums. 1992’s Rev discovered Ralske using other music artists for the very first time, but soon after the release of this record, Ralske retired the music group name and spent many years functioning as manufacturer and studio room musician for famous brands Ivy, Lloyd Cole, and Richard Davies. In the past due ’90s, Kurt Ralske came back under the music group name Cathars, launching the ambient electronica function Amorphous in 1999.
