Ulf Wakenius

b. Ulf Karl Erik Wakenius, 16 Apr 1958, Halmstad, Sweden. Elevated in Gothenburg, Wakenius performed electric guitar from early youth. Initially self-taught, he afterwards examined at Gothenburg Conservatoire. Originally, his interest lay down in modern blues but he afterwards transferred into jazz. By his past due teens he had been referred to as a program musician and in the middle- and past due 70s he was using the Swedish rings Sundance and Mwendo Dawa. Afterwards, he toured European countries and in the first 80s he and fellow guitarist Peter Almqvist produced Guitars Unlimited, documenting Presenting Guitars Unlimited Duo (1983) and Acoustic Shokk (1985). Wakenius also documented with Svend Asmussen and been to SOUTH USA, playing concerts and saving. In these years, he also started dealing with bass participant Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, building a strong functioning romantic relationship that lasted until Ørsted Pedersen’s loss of life in 2005. In the first 90s, Wakenius was an associate of Graffiti with drummer Dennis Chambers, bass participant Gary Grainger and key pad participant Haakon Graf, documenting 1992’s Graffiti Great Groove. Among a great many other jazz music artists with whom Wakenius spent some time working and sometimes documented are Lars Danielsson, Chris Minh Doky, Artwork Farmer, Benny Golson, Jim Hall, Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, Joe Henderson, Milt Jackson, Michel Legrand, Adam Moody, Potential Roach, Clark Terry and Toots Thielemans. Wakenius in addition has led his very own rings, notably a solid group, including Chris Minh and his sibling Niels Lan Doky, Randy Brecker, Danielsson, Bob Berg and Costs Evans, and DeJohnette, which was documented in 1991 by L+R Information. He also led the Stellar Quintet, including Michael Brecker and Ray Dark brown, and began dealing with Dark brown, including documenting Seven Guidelines To Heaven (1995) andSummertime (1997). In 1997, Wakenius became a member of Peterson’s quartet, touring internationally using the pianist and showing up on the next season’s A Summertime Evening In Munich. This specific edition from the pianist’s group also included Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Martin Drew.
