Funk duo Tuxedo is definitely a collaboration between Los Angeles-based neo-soul singer/songwriter Mayer Hawthorne and Seattle-based hip-hop producer Jake 1. Influenced from the traditional disco-funk of ’70s and early-’80s works like Chic, Shalamar, and Zapp, both friends started trading mixtapes dating back to 2006, although Tuxedo task wouldn’t officially surface area for another six years. A three-song EP centered around the solitary “GET IT DONE” appeared apparently out of nowhere in 2013, prompting instant fascination with the duo. While juggling their specific projects using the developing body of Tuxedo function, they finally shipped an LP’s well worth of tunes by means of their self-titled debut, that was released by Rocks Throw Information in early 2015. Following the recording, Hawthorne and One proceeded to go their separate methods, with Hawthorne liberating his fourth single recording, Man About City, in early 2016 and One remaining busy creating a wide variety of works from Wale and Rick Ross towards the Weeknd. They returned collectively to record another recording of robo-funk and soft R&B, this time around featuring guest looks by Snoop Dogg and vocalist Gavin Turek. II premiered by Rocks Toss in March of 2017.
