Trevor Tomkins

b. 12 Might 1941, London, Britain. As a teenager Tomkins initial used the trombone before switching towards the drums which he produced his initial professional appearance. Although he researched extensively, mostly within the traditional vein, he was deeply thinking about jazz and in the first 60s moved completely into this field, functioning often with the tiny group co-led by Ian Carr and Don Rendell. He spent time in america but through the 70s onwards became perhaps one of the most sought-after jazz drummers in the united kingdom, where he provides used Michael Garrick, Barbara Thompson, Mike Westbrook among others. He’s also popular as accompanist to American jazzmen going to the united kingdom, amongst them Lee Konitz. A gifted mainstream and bop drummer, Tomkins’ research, which encompassed tranquility and music theory, allied to an abundance of experience, have got provided him enviable order. His technical success is complemented by way of a refined sense of golf swing and the capability to anticipate and fulfil the needs of the music artists he accompanies. He’s also a very much respected teacher.
