Trembling Bells

Glasgow’s eclectic Trembling Bells were founded in early 2008 by drummer Alex Neilson, an improviser that has used Jandek, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and Current 93, amongst others. Neilson produced the group to be able to explore even more organised, song-based music, and recruited vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Lavinia Blackwall (who caused Neilson in the group Directing Hands), bassist/vocalist Simon Shaw (also of Lucky Luke), and guitarist/harmonica participant Ben Reynolds (who used Neilson in Electric motor Ghost and can be a solo musician). This edition of the group released its debut record, Carbeth, in Apr 2009 on Honest Jon’s Information; Blackwall’s apparent soprano as well as the group’s acoustic leanings drew acclaim and evaluations to Pentangle, Fairport Convention, the Amazing String Music group, and other British isles folk luminaries from the ’60s and ’70s — a lot so the music group participated within an Amazing String Music group tribute concert at London’s Barbican two months after Carbeth’s launch. Trembling Bells’ live display is simply as eclectic as their albums, with brass and accordion players, a dance troupe, and movies all playing a component within their concerts. For his or her second recording, 2010’s Abandoned Like, they added guitarist/vocalist Mike Hastings towards the collapse and incorporated middle ages, country, and vintage rock influences to their audio. They continued to be prolific and stylistically restless in 2011, liberating the greater psychedelic The Regular Pageant and Marble Downs, a couple of duets between Blackwall and can Oldham that found its way to April 2012. Carrying out a 2013 part project known as the Crying Lion that noticed both Neilson and Blackwall collaborating using the a cappella group Muldoon’s Picnic on a couple of choral music, Trembling Bells came back with their 5th recording, 2015’s The Sovereign Personal. Their vibrant explorations of English folk and psych designs continued a 12 months later on with Wide Majestic Aire, an eight-song mini-album meant as sort of friend piece towards the Sovereign Self. Oct 2016 saw the discharge of another collaborative work with Bonnie “Prince” Billy, The Bonnie Bells of Oxford.
