If ever there have been a dependence on Portugal to have something getting close to the quintessential (and successful) adult option music group, then Toranja match that explanation to a T. Lead vocalist/guitarist/piano guy Tiago Bettencourt was the pressure behind their development. Around him, he collected Ricardo Frutuoso (acoustic guitar), Dodi (b. Jorge Pamplona, bass), and Rato (b. Pedro Lima, drums). Nearly immediately, Toranja began slogging it hard, getting gigs wherever they could. In 2001, all of the hard work steadily started to pay back, as the tune “Fome (Nesse Sempre)” was contained in an unsigned music group compilation and were able to get moderate airplay on the nationwide level; this regardless of some accusations (specifically regarding Bettencourt’s performing) how the band’s design hewed too carefully compared to that of celebrated Portuguese vocalist/songwriter Jorge Palma — a declare that would never actually desert them.
