Tonio K.

New wave ironist Tonio K. was created Steve Krikorian on July 4, 1950 and grew up in Hand Desert, CA. While in senior high school he created his first music group, the Raik’s Improvement. In 1973, he made an appearance on his 1st recording, Remnants, as an associate of the previous Buddy Holly support music group the Crickets. After heading single, he assumed the stage name Tonio K., evidently honoring the Thomas Mann novella Tonio Kröger. His debut LP, Existence in the Foodchain, was a crucial smash upon its 1978 discharge, winning acclaim because of its scathing wit and smartly crafted music; Amerika followed 2 yrs later, and even though it fared badly commercially it helped create the vocalist as a significant favorite over the L.A. membership picture.
