The similarities of Tone, a self-proclaimed guitar ensemble, to Savage Republic as well as the Music group of Susans are likely not accidental. The Washington, D.C.-centered instrumental band’s debut album appeared about Impartial Project, the label run by ex-Savage Republic guitarist Bruce Licher; the documenting was made by Robert Poss of Band of Susans. Including previous members of Authorities Concern and Unrest, the group specializes in creating a mass of post-punk acoustic guitar sound with hook psychedelic edge on the instrumentals, also recalling some characteristics of Glenn Branca’s guitar orchestrations. Sustain made an appearance in 1996.
