Tommaso Antonio Vitali, child of famous Bolognese cellist Giovanni Battista Vitali, started his profession being a musician in 1675, at age 12, when he followed his dad towards the d’Este courtroom in Modena. While his dad, who was among the pre-eminent cellists and composers of his period, assumed among the two articles of vicemaestri di cappella to Duke Francesco II, Tommaso Antonio became a member of the courtroom orchestra like a violinist. Younger Vitali spent nearly his lifetime like a musician in the Modena courtroom, first as an instrumentalist, after that as orchestra movie director; he remaining his position just in 1742, 3 years before his loss of life.
