Token Women

This all-female ceilidh outfit was conceived in 1990 by members of varied other UK folk bands, notably the Old Swan Band and Blowzabella, with the initial line-up comprising Jackie Allen (fiddle, saxophone), Jo Freya (b. Jo-Anne Rachel Newmarch Fraser, 4 Dec 1960, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, Britain; saxophone, clarinet, whistle), Fi Fraser (b. Fiona Mildred Newmarch Fraser, 31 July 1959, Barnet, Hertfordshire, Britain; fiddle, clarinet), Heather Vigar (keyboards, flute), Becky Palmer (saxophone), and Kathryn Locke (cello). Sketching on the British and Western european folk custom and including a smattering of primary materials, the group demonstrated highly popular over the live circuit and released two great albums over the No Experts label in the middle-90s. After a five-year hiatus Token Females reunited, using the Frasers, Allen and Vigar (today referred to as Heather Vigar-Horsley) became a member of by Alice Kinloch (tuba, trombone, euphonium) and Jo Might (percussion) over the 2001 documenting Elsa.
