Todd Edwards

Though he gets less credit from stateside DJs and companies (a minimum of in comparison to labelmates like Armand Van Helden), Todd Edwards created a forward thinking mixture of rhythmic, cut-and-paste vocal examples, rubbery basslines, and slapping percussion that helped propel Britain’s Sunday clubscene in to the genuine cultural phenomenon of speed garage. Located in NJ, Edwards began making for Nervous, the brand new York home label, through the early ’90s. His 1993 “Instruction My Spirit” single, documented because the Messenger, set up a prototype for garage area music that maintained the spirit and grit but prevented the overly refined airs a lot of the music acquired acquired. Twelve months later, “The Compliment” (because the Test Choir) continuing Edwards’ irresistible, exclusive production design — which frequently utilizes a large number of different examples, most of them himself — and he also caused two “true” vocalists, Kim British (“Tomorrow”) and Veda Simpson (“Oohhh Baby”). In 1994, Edwards documented several monitors for the next NJ jazz-house label, i! Information. One year afterwards, his second correct release over the label, “Saved MY ENTIRE LIFE,” became a huge club strike and earned permit in Britain through Pete Tong’s ffrr Information. He supplied remixes for many dance strikes, by Robin S., Wildchild, Indo, St. Germain, the Dearest, and label-mate Kevin Yost. In 1999, Anxious gathered his productions on the Compact disc collection, and i! Information released Prima Edizione, a quasi-compilation including four brand-new monitors. Edwards also released an EP with Tuff Jam, and finished a co-production for addition on Daft Punk’s sophomore record.
