Tiny Powell

b. Vance Powell, 17 Might 1922, Warren, Arkansas, USA, d. 5 Feb 1984, Oakland, California, USA. Powell sang with many gospel groups, like the Golden Harp Performers, with whom he produced his first information in 1947, the Paramount Gospel Performers, with whom he sang intermittently from 1948-60, generally as lead vocalist. He also experienced a short early 50s spell using the Five Blind Males Of Mississippi, posting lead duties using the magnificent Archie Brownlee. Among instrumentalists with whom Powell worked well is usually guitarist Johnny Heartsman. Energetic frequently in the Bay Part of California, he was specifically well-known in the 60s. Popular among the tunes he documented and that have been later covered, frequently more effectively if not necessarily aswell, are “Obtain My Hat”, “Bossy Female”, “YOU NEED TO Bow Down Before God” and “My Period IN A SHORT TIME”. The exceptional Coral Information compilation, Heaven IN MY OWN View, includes check pressings and a cappella tunes that give a definite indication of the energy and fervour of Powell’s wealthy tone of voice and dramatic performing style.
