Tiny Grimes was among the first jazz electrical guitarists to become influenced by Charlie Christian, and he developed his very own swinging style. In early stages, he was a drummer and proved helpful being a pianist in Washington. In 1938, he began playing guitar, and 2 yrs afterwards he was playing in a favorite jive group, the Felines as well as the Fiddle. During 1943-1944, Grimes was section of a classic Artwork Tatum Trio which also included Slam Stewart. In Sept 1944, he led his initial record time, using Charlie Parker; features are the instrumental “Crimson Combination” and Grimes’ vocal on “Love Without Fund (Is really a Nuisance).” He also documented for Blue Take note in 1946, and come up with an R&B-oriented group, “the Rockin’ Highlanders,” that highlighted the tenor of Crimson Prysock during 1948-1952. Although preserving a reasonably low profile, Tiny Grimes was energetic until his loss of life, playing within an unchanged golf swing/bop transitional design and recording being a head for such brands as Prestige/Swingville, Dark & Blue, Muse, and Sonet.
