Tin Hat Trio

Transplanted from NY towards the Bay Area, the chamber jazz group Tin Hat Trio includes accordionist Rob Burger, guitarist Tag Orton, and violinist Carla Kihlstedt. The group’s exclusive blend of framework, improvisation, and modern classical, folk, globe, and jazz components shows each member’s various other performing encounters. Kihlstedt majored in traditional violin performance on the Oberlin Conservatory and continued to become prominent performer both in traditional and improvised music, using performers like John Zorn and Roscoe Mitchell, and documenting with Eugene Chadbourne, the Grassy Knoll, and Tom Waits. Also a specialist recording and audio engineer, Orton done sessions with Costs Frisell, John Zorn, as well as the Lounge Lizards, and constructed the sound on the Knitting Stock for just two years. Orton has banjo, lute, dobro, lap metal, and guitar with his various other group, San Francisco’s Aged Joe Clarks, and it has composed ratings for independent movies like Beverly Wachtel’s Simply Noticeable Difference. Burger examined traditional piano at Juilliard and explored different improvisational designs on the School of Massachusetts with Potential Roach, Archie Stepp, and Yusef Lateef. He broadened his range to add Hammond body organ and classic keyboards just like the Optigan and Chamberlin, gadget pianos and keyboards, as well as the accordion. Burger provides toured with Costs Frisell, Don Byron, and Joey Baron, and made an appearance on Frisell’s Stories from the Considerably Aspect soundtrack.
