Times

Shaped in 1968, the changing times had been an offshoot from Joe Dolan’s highly successful Irish showband, the Drifters. The line-up of the changing times comprised Jimmy Swarbrigg (vocals), Tommy Swarbrigg (trumpet), Joey Gilheaney (trombone), Jimmy Horan (bass), Des Doherty (keyboards), Gene Bannon (saxophone), Sean Kenny (lead acoustic guitar) and Donal ‘Sid’ Aughey (drums). Unlike many showbands from the era, the changing times wrote a lot of their own materials. From 1969-76, they notched up a formidable group of Irish strikes, including ‘Dozie’, ‘Hitching To Miami’, ‘Searching Through The Eye Of A LOVELY Woman’, ‘The Entertainer’, ‘It ALL HANGS On You’, ‘If Ma Could Discover Me Right now’ and ‘Keep On’. The talented Swarbrigg brothers also liked a separate performing career and double represented Ireland within the Eurovision Music Competition. In 1975 their ‘That’s What Close friends Are For’ accomplished sixth put in place the Eurovision last and reached #2 2 in Eire’s graphs. Two years later on, they guaranteed third spot within the Eurovision Music Competition with ‘It’s Great To MAINTAIN Love Once again’, which consequently topped the Irish graphs. The achievement of the duo emphasized the musical skill that stretched back again through Irish showband background, from the changing times towards the Drifters. (NB: Never to end up being confused with the united kingdom 80s indie music group of the same name.)
