Times New Viking

Much like Led simply by Voices, Times Fresh Viking certainly are a loud, lo-fi indie rock-band from Ohio who made the leap through the long-running indie Siltbreeze Records towards the higher-profile Matador label. Unlike Led by Voices, whose hissy, distortion-heavy audio masked a knack for traditional ’60s-affected pop hooks and surreal lyrical wordplay, this Columbus-based trio mementos a far more punk-derived audio and minimalist, intentionally repetitive lyrics. Instances New Viking (the music group name as an obscure and meaningless pun for the name of the favorite typeface Moments New Roman) shaped in Columbus in 2004, when artwork school learners Adam Elliott, Beth Murphy, and Jared Phillips spontaneously made a decision to type a music group while going out in an area rock membership. Murphy and Phillips, who got no musical schooling between them, got over keyboards and electric guitar respectively, as the marginally even more skilled Elliott performed drums. (Elliott and Murphy both sing, frequently together though seldom in tranquility.) The band’s debut record, Dig Yourself, premiered on Siltbreeze in 2005, accompanied by Moments New Viking Present the Paisley Reich in 2007. The Compact disc version from the last mentioned record included the six paths from a set of limited-edition vinyl-only EPs released before the record. Generally reviews that are positive and a constant touring ethic, which led to a stint starting for Yo La Tengo and shows at indie cred-building celebrations like Coachella and SXSW, successfully elevated the band’s profile. Appropriately, they produced the leap from Siltbreeze to Matador for 2008’s Rip It Off (offering 16 breathless paths in under 31 mins), made by Ohio sound rock and roll godfather Mike Hummel of Mike Rep & the Quotas. Delivered Again Revisited came one year afterwards. After switching to Merge and clearing up their audio just a contact (and also going as far as to record within a studio room for the very first time), the trio released its 5th record, Dancer Equired, in Apr of 2011.
