Time of Orchids

NEW YORK avant-rock combo Period of Orchids has evolved during the period of their job from metal-edged art-noise terrorists to some skewed, eclectic stew that attracts freely from both Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart axis as well as the calmer sonic world of 1960s Euro film soundtracks ? la John Barry, Kryztof Komeda, and Ennio Morricone, in addition to their prog steel and post-rock contemporaries. Period of Orchids was produced by keyboardist Chuck Stern and guitarist Charlie Looker, who drafted in bassist Jesse Krakow and drummer Keith Abrams to finish the lineup; Looker still left the music group in 2000, changed by Will Redmond for the band’s initial self-released record, 2001’s Melonwhisper. Much blend of steel and experimental music ? la Mike Patton’s Mr. Bungle, with some dub-like components that recall early Community Picture Ltd., Melonwhisper was a hyper-aggressive debut. 2003’s WAY TOO Very much Fun (the very first record with new long lasting guitarist Eric Fitzgerald) was almost as heavy however, not so aggressively peculiar, and highlighted guest vocals with the B-52’s’ Kate Pierson. Abrams was changed by brand-new drummer David Bodie soon after the documenting of 2004’s Early as Observed in Pace, a fitness in technically amazing progressive hard rock and roll. After three self-released albums, Period of Orchids was found by John Zorn’s Tzadik Information for 2005’s Sarcast While, a far more reflective recording featuring guest looks by trumpeter Tim Byrnes and cult preferred dream pop vocalist Julee Luxury cruise. Long-running progressive rock and roll label Cuneiform Information released Period of Orchids’ 5th recording, the ambitious Namesake Extreme caution, in nov 2007.
