Tijuana Hercules

Mutant-blues trio Tijuana Hercules had been led by vocalist/guitarist John Forbes, an Indiana local who initial surfaced in the late ’80s while a member from the Atlanta music group Phantom 309, which also featured potential Jesus Lizard drummer Mac pc McNeilly. After a following stint in Dirt, he relocated to Chicago in 1993, founding sound merchants Support Shasta and issuing four LPs on your skin Graft label. In the weeks prior to Support Shasta’s 1998 dissolution, the drummer’s chair was occupied by Chad Smith, later on Forbes’ roommate. Collectively they co-founded Tijuana Hercules in early 2000, adding percussionist Mike Youthful to complete the initial lineup. Fueled by classic blues, rockabilly, and gospel, the group began like a cover music group but Forbes’ initial compositions eventually relocated to the fore. Young’s tenure with Tijuana Hercules demonstrated brief, nevertheless, and Forbes and Smith added horn participant/percussionist Zak Piper with time to record the trio’s self-titled 2001 debut EP, released alone Dark Pisces label.
