With their origins firmly put into hardcore punk, the German-based quintet of Thumb met up in 1993. Originally comprising Claus Grabke (vocals), Jan Hendrik Meyer (bass), Axel Hilgenstoehler (acoustic guitar), and Steffen Wilmking (drums), Jens Goessling (turntables) was ultimately put into the lineup for his contribution of sampling methods, instead of turning the music group into a steel/hip-hop cliché. After self-releasing their initial record in 1995, their follow-up full-length Publicity came out solely in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 1996. Victory Information ultimately re-released the record to the State governments the following calendar year.
