Thu-Zaina

The classic orchestral music from the Congo was from the contemporary sounds from the rumba by Thu Zahina. Motivated with the music of Franco’s TPOK Jazz and Tabu Ley’s Africa Jazz, the group had taken a further stage towards modern music. Produced by university students (aged 17 to 19), Thu Zahina was inspired by older learners, learning in Belgium, who acquired formed a music group, Los Nickelos, in 1966. The group’s sound included vocalists Abeli Kelly, Dennis and Bruno Bonyome, Biluala Hendryx, Juslin, Dizzy, and Frank followed by bassist, composer, and arranger Gege Yoka Mangaya, guitarist Roxy Thsampaka, and drummer Zicozaco. However the band was jointly for just six years, their impact remains strong. Following group’s disbanding, Mangaya continued to try out with Fine Jazz and Zaiko Langa Langa while Thsampaka continued to execute with Zaiko Langa Langa and Choc Superstars.
