Three Cats and a Fiddle

Comprised of people Fred Valdez (piano), Roland Bundock (bass), Tony Rizzi (guitar), and John Berry (baritone violectra), the gentle jazz quartet 3 Felines & a Fiddle released a lone album in 1964, Gentle Jazz. The group’s innovator was Rizzi, who performed and/or documented with such performers as the Paul Smith Quartet, the Dave Pell Quintet, Ted and Dick Nash, plus Herbie Mann through the ’50s and ’60s (Rizzi also was among the studio room musicians that performed off-camera for such ’60s Television shows as The Smothers Brothers). In the ’70s, Rizzi created Tony Rizzi and His Five Guitars, issuing the acclaimed Takes on Charlie Christian soon thereafter.
