Those Pretty Wrongs

Called from a term inside a Shakespeare sonnet, Those Pretty Wrongs can be a collaboration between Big Star founding member and drummer Jody Stephens and Luther Russell of root base rockers the Freewheelers. The duo met up when Stephens asked Russell to become listed on him in shows of his previous band’s tracks at screenings from the 2012 documentary Big Celebrity: Nothing at all Can Harm Me. They quickly began writing tracks together, authorized with Burger Information, and released a 7″ in the springtime of 2015; the nostalgic jangle ballad “Lucky Man” was documented in Memphis using past due Big Celebrity co-leader Chris Bell’s guitars through the band’s 1972 debut recording. It was followed from the B-side “Fool of Myself.” Their eponymous full-length debut came via Ardent in 2016, with Burger Information handling the vinyl fabric release.
