Self-described “lo-fi arena rock” quartet Third Grade Teacher presented the vocals of real-life third-grade teacher Sabrina Stevenson. Stevenson was energetic as a vocalist by 1999, gigging throughout Silverlake and Hollywood with guitarist David Guerrero, bassist Sharon Schloss, and drummer Artwork Jencks. Sound-wise, 3GT carved out a distinct segment on the rock and roll face somewhere within metallic and punk revivalism, departing plenty of space for Stevenson’s wildly moving vocals and bizarre stage antics (faucet dance, speaking in tongues, crawling on to the floor, etc.). The music group self-released its 1st album, Greatest Strikes, Vol. 1, in 1999, and adopted it a yr later using the Underklass. In addition they appeared on several compilations, including Sympathy for the Record Industry’s Alright, THIS TIME AROUND Just girls. Around this stage, Third Quality Teacher’s lineup shifted to add bassist Laura Smith and drummer Rob Ahlers. 2003 noticed the discharge of 3, that was eventually found by Bay Region indie Pinch Strike.
