Formed through the past due ’80s, Swedish death steel group Therion was led by vocalist, guitarist, and composer Christofer Johnsson. Originally curved out by business lead guitarist Peter Hansson, bassist Erik Gustafson, and drummer Oskar Forss, the group debuted in 1990 using the LP Of Darkness. Gustafson exited immediately after, so that as a three-piece Therion came back in 1991 with Beyond Sanctorum. By 1993’s Symphony Public: Ho Drakon Ho Megas, just Johnsson continued to be from the initial lineup, and he was today supported by guitarist Magnus Barthelson, bassist Andreas Wallan Wahl, and drummer Piotr Wawrzeniuk. The record marked the origins of a far more experimental strategy, with Johnsson incorporating even more orchestrations and pseudo-classical dreams, plus some commercial textures. Both Barthelson and Wahl had been eliminated by 1995’s THE WONDER in Dark EP, with the help of bassist Fredrik Isaksson once again coming back Therion to a trio format. The same roster made an appearance around the full-length follow-up, Lepaca Kliffoth, which constructed around the tests of Symphony People, but by 1996’s Theli, Isaksson as well had hit the street, making method for the introduction of guitarist Jonas Mellberg and bassist Lars Rosenberg. Theli was nearly universally acclaimed as the apex of Therion’s profession to date, completely realizing Johnsson’s flavor for sophisticated, operatic grandeur. Mellberg was absent for 1997’s A’arab Zaraq Lucid Thinking, and by the next year’s Vovin, Johnsson was carrying out with a completely new supporting device comprising second guitarist Tommy Eriksson, bassist Jan Kazda, and drummer Wolf Simons. Crowning of Atlantis adopted in 1999 using the same staff, but Johnsson jettisoned this lineup for early 2000’s Deggial, recruiting guitarist Kristian Niemann, bassist Johan Niemann, and drummer Sami Karppinen. In 2001 Therion released Key from the Runes, a conceptual piece that presented heavily orchestrated songs, each representing among the nine planes of Norse mythology. Reside in Midgard showed up the following 12 months, chronicling the band’s 2001 trips of SOUTH USA and European countries. Therion took another season off and started focus on their most ambitious task however, Lemuria and Sirius B. Originally slated for discharge as two distinct entities, the sprawling 21-monitor explosion of traditional, choral, and rock excess premiered being a two-disc occur 2004. Therion continuing the excess using the 2007 discharge from the two-disc Gothic Kabbalah on Nuclear Blast.
