Theodore Bikel

Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1992 by lead singer and songwriter Paul McKenzie (the only real constant person in the group), the true McKenzies perform for Scottish folk music the actual Pogues do for the original music of Ireland. They rev it up to swiftness and power that approximate punk rock and roll, but still keep up with the melodic feeling of the initial sound, and occasionally make use of bagpipes and acoustic guitars to provide it a flavor of folkie authenticity, as the lyrics cope with the joys and tragedies of Scottish background, along with the group’s well-documented like of booze.
