Trumpeter, composer, and arranger Theo Croker can be an adventurous musician whose adept abilities find him in the home using criteria, swinging post-bop, or even more groove-oriented electric powered jazz. A indigenous of Leesburg, Florida, Croker may be the grandson from the past due great jazz trumpeter Doc Cheatham. He started playing trumpet around age group 11 after hearing Cheatham play in NEW YORK, and by his teenagers was learning music on the Douglas Anderson College from the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida. From 2003 to 2007, Croker went to the music conservatory at Oberlin University. While at Oberlin, he was mentored by renowned trumpeter and educator Donald Byrd. Also during this time period, he gained the Presser Music Base Prize, which funded his debut record, 2006’s Basics. After graduating Oberlin, Croker relocated to China, where he used residency at Shanghai’s Home of Blues. His 2009 record, In the Custom, paid tribute to Cheatham. In 2013, Croker came back to the Expresses and began focus on his third single record, the Dee Dee Bridgewater-produced Afro Physicist. Released in 2014 on OKeh Information, the album discovered him branching out stylistically, weaving components of funk, Latin jazz, and hip-hop into his audio. In 2016, he shipped Escape Speed, which discovered him delving deeper right into a genre-bending, spiritually enlightened, funk-influenced jazz audio.
