Ex – gospel vocalist Thelma Jones moved to R&B when she recorded the initial version of “THE HOME That Jack port Built.” While a serviceable work, it had been blown from the drinking water by Aretha Franklin’s definitive edition years afterwards. Her best tune was “Salty Tears,” an excellent tearjerker that sadly didn’t make the influence that it will have. Jones documented Thelma Jones for Columbia in 1978, but her cover of Smokey Robinson’s “I Second That Feeling” fizzled, as do a 1987 Barry one, “Never Keep Me.”
