The Wooden Sky

An indie folk music group whose music is active, literate, and knowledgeable by equal stocks of joy and sorrow, the Wooden Sky were shaped in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by Gavin Gardiner, a vocalist and guitarist who was simply attending Ryerson University or college. In 2003, Gardiner wrote a batch of tunes for a course project and required a band to try out them. Gardiner became a member of causes with bassist Andrew Wyatt and drummer Chris Cocca, as well as the combo started playing around Toronto using the name Fri Morning’s Regret. By 2007, that they had transformed their name towards the Wooden Sky and released their debut recording, When Shed at Ocean. By 2009, when the Wooden Sky decreased their second recording, EASILY Don’t GET BACK You’ll Find out I’m Eliminated, the group had opted through some lineup shakeups; Chris Cocca experienced left, as well as the Solid wood Sky experienced three new users, Peter Krpan (bass, drums, and percussion), Mika Posen (violin), and Simon Walker (keyboards, mandolin, and acoustic guitar). The ambitious sophomore recording received enthusiastic notices from critics, and was nominated for the Polaris Music Reward, awarded every year to a Canadian recording of outstanding merit without concern to genre or industrial achievement. A five-song EP, Town of Light, was released in 2011 to coincide having a concert tour, and in 2012 the Wooden Sky released Every Kid a Child, Every Moon a Sunlight; it became the group’s first significant graph success, increasing to quantity 66 around the Canadian albums graph, and was nominated for any Juno Award (the Canadian equal to the Grammys) for Greatest Origins & Traditional Recording of the entire year, though Elliott Brood strolled house with the reward. In 2015, after liberating their 1st three albums through the impartial Black Container Recordings label, the Wooden Sky agreed upon with brand-new Canadian imprint Chelsea Information; the group’s first record for the label, 2015’s Let’s PREPARE YOURSELF, also shown another brand-new lineup, using the primary trio of Gardiner, Walker, and drummer Andrew Kekewich became a member of by longtime affiliates Edwin Huizinga on violin and Andrew Wyatt on bass.
