The United Jazz + Rock Ensemble

Featuring a number of the finest avant-garde jazz players from Germany and beyond, the United Jazz + Rock and roll Ensemble started life being a loose studio aggregation constructed to get a youth-oriented German tv program in 1975. Longing for a modern balance between rock and roll and jazz, manufacturer Werner Schretzmeier asked pianist Wolfgang Dauner, the previous leader of ETC, an avant-garde jazz group Schretzmeier got maintained until their break up in 1972. Primarily recruiting music artists from his house bottom of Stuttgart (a hotbed of avant-garde jazz), Dauner come up with a rotating ensemble of musicians which were initially dubbed the Eleven . 5 Ensemble (following the program’s airtime); this group highlighted guitarist Volker Kriegel (who distributed writing and organizing responsibilities with Dauner), drummer Jon Hiseman, trumpeter Ack Truck Rooyen, and trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff. As demand for recordings and open public shows grew, Dauner solidified the lineup with saxophonist Charlie Mariano, saxophonist/flutist Barbara Thompson, trumpeter Ian Carr, and bassist Eberhard Weber. This nine-piece aggregation documented the first record beneath the United Jazz + Rock and roll Outfit name, Live im Schutzenhaus, in 1977; released around the group’s personal Mood Information label, the recording was popular, eventually getting the best-selling German jazz record ever. The Ensemble documented and toured pretty regularly following the achievement of Live im Schutzenhaus; 1978’s Teamwork and 1979’s The Break Actually Point positioned the group inside a studio room setting, using the second option offering trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. 1981’s double-LP Reside in Berlin was another achievement, and was accompanied by United Live Opus Sechs in 1984, with Wheeler back tow. On 1987’s studio room recording Circular Seven, trumpeter Johannes Faber packed set for Wheeler; Wheeler came back once more for the 1992 studio room arranged Na Endlich!, which also presented fresh bassist Dave Ruler. Mariano was consequently changed by tenor saxophonist Christof Lauer, who produced his documented debut around the 1996 concert recording Die Neunte von United. In 2002, after more than two decades collectively, the group announced that it had been getting into a farewell tour, and its users would move ahead to other tasks (probably collaborative).
