The Ting Tings

Called after a Chinese language friend whose name appears like the Mandarin pronunciation of “bandstand,” the Ting Tings — a scrappy, dance-oriented duo comprising singer/guitarist Katie Light and drummer Jules De Martino — produced in the Salford district of Manchester, Britain in 2006. Ahead of developing the group, the set worked jointly in 2001 when Light is at the all-female punk-pop group TKO and De Martino composed some music for them. Afterwards the set reunited, and with another friend produced the trio Eskimo Kiss, which agreed upon to Mercury Information but disbanded, partly because of changing personnel on the label. De Martino and Light regrouped, focusing on their very own music and others’ at Salford’s music commune The Islington Mill. Quickly agreed upon to the neighborhood indie label Switchflicker Information, the Ting Tings released their debut one, “THAT ISN’T My Name,” in the springtime of 2007. Following limited-edition, tour-only one “Fruits Machine,” the Ting Tings agreed upon to major-label Columbia afterwards that season. The flipside from the Switchflicker one, “Great DJ,” premiered as the duo’s debut Columbia one in March 2008, accompanied by the reissue of “THAT ISN’T My Name” with a fresh distinctive B-side remix. “THAT ISN’T My Name” increased to the very best from the U.K. graphs in-may 2008, the same month how the duo’s debut record, We Started Nothing at all, made an appearance. The Ting Tings spent the others of 2008 and a big section of 2009 touring to get the record, which eventually marketed over two million copies world-wide, won this year’s 2009 Ivor Novello Prize for Best Record, and gained the group a Greatest New Musician Grammy nomination that Dec. Early this year 2010, De Martino and Light shifted to Berlin to focus on tracks because of their second album. Motivated with the city’s atmosphere as well as the winter, they went within a darker, even more electronic direction using their brand-new tracks. In August 2010, the Ting Tings provided a flavor of their brand-new materials, premiering the one “Hands” — that was blended by Calvin Harris — on BBC Radio 1 and officially launching it that Oct. After intensive touring and over eight a few months documenting in Germany and Spain, in March 2012 the Ting Tings provided their sophomore record, Noises from Nowheresville, a assortment of tracks inspired with the exuberant independence from the Beastie Young boys’ traditional Paul’s Boutique. 2 yrs later, third record Super Important surfaced. Its Oct release time was preceded with the April discharge of first one “Wrong Membership.”
