The Sway Machinery

Though Sway Equipment frontman Jeremiah Lockwood was raised hearing both records of popular Jewish Cantors in his grandparents’ Queens apartment (his maternal grandfather, Jacob Konigsberg, was a well-known Cantor himself), along with the blues (he started taking part in blues guitar as an adolescent, studying and taking part in in the brand new York subways with famous Piedmont blues guitarist Carolina Thin), it wasn’t until he was a grown-up that he could bring both together inside a coherent amalgamation. In 2006, Lockwood teamed up with Israeli percussionist (and Balkan Defeat Package MC) Tomer Tzur, in addition to tenor saxophonist Stuart Bogie and trumpeter Jordan McLean of Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, and Arcade Open fire touring member Colin Stetson. Lockwood centered both his lyrics and melodies on Jewish Large Vacations prayers and 20th hundred years Cantorial music, as the music drawn from each one of the member’s personal encounters and styles. Authorized to JDub Information, the Sway Machinery’s intro was a media overall performance on Rosh Hashanah in 2007, known as Hidden Melodies Exposed, and held in a famous NY temple. That same yr, Tzur moved back again to Israel, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Run after required his place behind the package. In 2008, the quartet released their debut self-titled EP, accompanied by the full-length, Hidden Melodies Exposed, in ’09 2009.
