Several Southern rock and roll traditionalists from Nashville, the Metal Woods lay state to the sound pioneered by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Like Skynyrd, the Metal Woods balance weighty blues-rock with Southern poetry, which quartet put in a little bit of plain-spoken outlaw nation to the blend, as evidenced on the 2017 debut Straw in the Blowing wind. Prior to developing the Metal Woods, guitarists Wes Bayliss and Jason “Rowdy” Deal were both going after musical careers. Deal found are a program musician and performed in Jamey Johnson’s music group, but once he fulfilled Bayliss at a Nashville gig, both clicked. First they truly became friends, they wound collaborating, adding bassist Johnny Stanton and drummer Jay Tooke to circular out the lineup. An eponymous EP arrived in 2016, and another year saw the discharge of Straw in the Blowing wind on Thirty Tigers.
