The Starjets

This band was formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in June 1976 using a line-up made up of Paul Bowen (guitar/vocals), Terry Sharpe (guitar/vocals), John Martin (bass/vocals) and Liam L’Estrange (drums/vocals). Since their college days each member have been involved with numerous rings of different musical preferences. Their paths frequently overlapped with Spike, a little rock-band that included John, Paul and Liam. Nevertheless, the limitations from the Irish rock and roll circuit ultimately led to the Starjets departing their indigenous shores and going across the drinking water to England. Within the 1st weeks of 1978 these were placed into the ‘power pop’ category that was affected musically from the 60s, having a leaning towards punk. Their live arranged included cover variations like the Beatles’ ‘Make sure you Make sure you Me’ as well as the Archies’ ‘Sugars Sugars’, and a group of self-penned tunes: ‘No Politics’, ‘Wise Kids’, ‘Best FROM THE Globe’, ‘Operate USING THE Pack’ and ‘Battle Tales’. Their 1978 debut ‘It Doesn’t Actually Matter’ was carefully accompanied by ‘Run USING THE Pack’. Both received superb reviews and experienced all the elements of the power pop strike but due to lack of advertising, neither experienced any commercial achievement. God Bless The Starjets spawned three singles: ‘Ten Years’, ‘Battle Tales’ and ‘College Times’. Critics and the general public showed just a lukewarm response, ‘Battle Stories’ being the only person to accomplish any success, achieving number 51 in the united kingdom charts. ‘Shireleo’, experienced the same destiny as prior offerings. Immediately after the music group broke up, although not before the discharge of an individual beneath the pseudonym Tango Brigade known as ‘Donegal’.
