The Soul Rebels

Biography

THE BRAND NEW Orleans group the Soul Rebels, which combines components of hip-hop with a normal brass band sound, was formed by former drum majors in the marching bands of Southern, Grambling, and Texas Southern School. Lumar LeBlanc (snare drum), Derrick Moss (bass drum), and Damion Francois (tuba) initial played jointly as Youthful Olympia, the junior department of Milton Batiste’s Olympia Brass Music group. Signing up for Tannon Williams (trumpet), Winston Turner (trombone), and Marcus Hubbard (trumpet), they started playing independently in 1991. (As well as the six everlasting associates, the group was often augmented by guests Will Terry on tenor sax, DJ Ike Turna on turntables, Mike Woods on percussion, and Thaddeus Clark on electrical piano.) In 1993, if they distributed a stage using the Neville Brothers, Cyril Neville christened them, stating, “Hey, you’re a brass music group, but y’all got funk and spirit. Y’all are like spirit rebels.” The Spirit Rebels released their first record, Let YOUR BRAIN Be Free of charge, on Mardi Gras Information in 1994. FORGET ABOUT Parades implemented on Tuff Town in 1998. (Even more Jams from FORGET ABOUT Parades was a live remix from the record for DJs produced minus the band’s acceptance or insight.) Rebelution, their third record, followed in Feb 2005 on Barn Burner Music. The hardworking music group (averaging about 250 displays each year) experienced an understandable setback that season when Hurricane Katrina devastated their hometown. Though its associates were scattered over the Gulf area, they still maintained not merely to reconcile to play displays every once in awhile, but also release a an record, 2006’s Urban Star. Following local produces like ROOM Like House: Reside in New Orleans, which made an appearance in ’09 2009, the music group saw a rise in visibility, showing up in an event of the brand new Orleans-themed HBO first series Treme, along with the tv broadcast from the parade prior to the 2010 Super Dish (the entire year the Saints gained the NFL tournament game). Ultimately, the Spirit Rebels agreed upon on with Rounder Information, which released their 2012 record, Unlock YOUR BRAIN.
