Derrick Crooks (b. 1937, Westmoreland, Jamaica, Western world Indies) originally performed alongside his sibling Sidney and Glen Adams within the embryonic Pioneers in 1962. The group released their debut, ‘Sometime’, in 1965 for manufacturer Leslie Kong, before signing up for Ken Lack’s Caltone organization. As the Pioneers’ profession obtained momentum, Crooks pursued his documenting profession alongside a variety of vocalists. He enrolled various other singers and jointly they performed because the Slickers. The Pioneers and Slickers had been often recognised incorrectly as one another for their related vocal stylings. The Slickers’ debut launch, ‘Nana’, made by Neremiah Reid, was a industrial achievement in Jamaica and flourished within the burgeoning UK reggae marketplace. By 1969 the group had been saving with Leslie Kong, who released the favorite ‘Work Fatty’ along with Joe Gibbs, who released ‘Mom Matty’, alongside the cautionary ‘Guy Beware’. In 1970 the Slickers documented with Byron Lee, who’s credited because the maker from the group’s recognized hit, ‘Johnny As well Poor’.
