The Rollettes

The Rollettes weren’t so much an organization like a discographical wrinkle. In 1956 the LA all-girl doo wop group the Dreamers, who documented both independently and (more often) as Richard Berry’s back-up group, made several singles for the Course label beneath the name the Rollettes. In fact they did just three paths on those singles, because the B-side of 1 of these, “Wham Bam,” was an instrumental by Googie Rene & His Wham Bams. The very best of these was the upbeat “Kiss Me Benny,” though overall these were forgettable early doo wop. All three from the paths are on the Dreamers’ Ace anthology They Sing Like Angels, which include sides by different permutations from the Dreamers, included in this ones which they back again Berry. The Dreamers transformed their name towards the Blossoms in 1957 and became among early rock and roll & roll’s most renowned program backup-vocal groups.
