The Rippingtons

Perhaps one of the most popular groupings in what’s loosely termed “modern jazz,” the Rippingtons were formed (and also have been led since) by guitarist/keyboardist Russ Freeman (zero regards to the veteran Western world Coastline bop pianist of the same name). Freeman (blessed Feb 11, 1960, in Nashville) examined at Cal Arts and UCLA, and documented Nocturnal Playground being a head in 1985 for the Brainchild label, a one-man task. In 1987, he was contacted to record for japan Alfa label and developed the Rippingtons name for the all-star group he applied to the disk (Moonlighting), an ensemble offering David Benoit, Kenny G., and Brandon Areas. Their record premiered domestically by Passport and became popular. Freeman soon shaped a normal touring music group (generally including saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, bassist Kim Rock, drummer Tony Morales, and percussionist Steve Reid), lower a second disk for Passport, as well as the group documented frequently for GRP. Freeman writes all the music for the Rippingtons, a lot of which falls in the pop/R&B genre. In the past due ’90s, the group shifted to the Windham Hill label, documenting such albums as Dark Gemstone (1997), Topaz (1999), Live! Across America, and Existence within the Tropics (both in 2000). For 2003’s ALLOW IT Ripp, the music group relied heavily on the horn section to transport the weight from the recording. The Latin-flavored Crazy Card adopted in 2005. The music group returned in ’09 2009 with Contemporary Artwork. In 2011, the Rippingtons released the South of France-inspired Côte d’Azur, adopted two years later on by Created to Last. The band’s 20th studio room recording, Elixir of youth, made an appearance in 2014. In 2016, the Rippingtons celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with the launch of True Tales, which presented the come back of unique member, saxophonist Brandon Areas.
