The Quill

Sweden’s the Quill spent years silently creating a name for themselves in stoner and large rock and roll circles, following an inauspicious begin in the coastal city of Mönsterås in 1990. Originally founded by vocalist Magnus Ekwall, guitarist Christian Carlsson, organist Anders Haglund, bassist Peter Holm (who was simply changed in 1993 by Roger Nilsson), and drummer Jolle Atlagic, the group released its self-titled debut recording in March 1995 to extremely positive reviews; they embarked on a tour with Abstrakt Algebra, capped by several Swedish festival shows. Organist Haglund was dispensed with at tour’s end, as well as the Quill would henceforth keep on like a quartet, however, not without event, as issues with their label postponed the discharge of 1999 sophomore recording, Silver Haze, for nearly two years.
