The Pistoleros

The Tempe, Arizona-based roots-rockers the Pistoleros comprised frontman Lawrence Zubia, his guitarist sibling Tag, guitarist Thomas Laufenberg, bassist Scott Andrews and drummer Gary Smith. The sons of the mariachi musican, the Zubias first surfaced as members from the Chimeras, which also included the ill-fated future Gin Blossoms guitarist Douglas Hopkins; “My Guardian Angel,” originally compiled by Hopkins, later on surfaced around the Pistoleros’ 1997 debut Hold on to Nothing at all, which also presented songwriting contributions from your Jayhawks’ Gary Louris, the Smithereens’ Pat DiNizio and Radney Foster.
