Browse music revivalists the Phantom Surfers shaped in early 1988 across the lineup of guitarists Johnny Bartlett and Mel Bergman, bassist Mike Lucas, and drummer Danny Seelig. Originally founded on the 11th hour to fill up a terminated gig on the College or university of California Santa Cruz, the group quickly surfaced as an underground preferred, famed because of their mystery-kitsch picture (Lone Ranger masks had been de rigeur) and thoroughly choreographed stage work; the debut Phantom Surfers LP 18 Lethal Ones implemented on Norton Information in 1991 amidst a flurry of 7″s, and in the years to check out, the band continued to be frighteningly prolific, issuing albums and singles on over twelve different brands (including discs with electric guitar legends Dick Dale and Davie Allan). With time, Seelig still left the group to become listed on the Hi-Fives and was changed by drummer Russell Quan; within the wake of THE FANTASTIC Browse Crash of ’97, Bartlett also handed in his resignation, with Maz Kattuah supposing his guitar responsibilities. 2000’s XXX Party highlighted contributions from humor legends Rudy Ray “Dolomite” Moore and Clarence “Blowfly” Reid.
