The Phantom Raiders

The Phantom Raiders were ages 11-14 if they cut their first in support of album, New Audio ’67, within the Justice label. Located in NEW YORK, the sextet contains Randy Lee (business lead guitar-age 11!!!), Doug Almond (bass), Mitch Miller (drums), Eddie Smith (tempo acoustic guitar), and Ricky Lee (tempo guitar, business lead vocals). They shut 1966 with an appearance in the Teen-a-Rama competition in the Charlotte Coliseum. Their repertory consisted mainly of addresses of then well-known strikes, including “I’m Not really Your Steppin’ Rock, ” “Gloria, ” “Day time Tripper, ” “Devil HAVING A Blue Gown On/Great Golly Miss Molly” etc. The group experienced a fairly slim sound, and an extremely punkish sound aswell, whether they had been covering Monkees music, Doors music, or browse instrumentals. The twin tempo guitars, in conjunction with Mitch Miller’s pretty aggressive drumming, provided their covers a whole lot of punch and a fairly heavy attack, even though its apparent that their reach surpasses their understand, as on “Time Tripper.” Ricky Lee’s performing betrays a lingering adenoidal quality that just enhances the youthful defiant teen picture.
