The Pastels

Doo wop group the Pastels formed in 1954. At that time, business lead DiFosco “Dee” Erwin, 1st tenor Richard Travis, second tenor Tony Thomas, and baritone Jimmy Willingham had been all stationed at a U.S. Atmosphere Force foundation in Narsarssuak, Greenland, and their first live looks were together with armed service showcases. Relating to Marv Goldberg’s profile in the Dec 1977 release of Yesterday’s Recollections, all Pastels were ultimately used in Washington, D.C., and carrying out a well-received efficiency in the USAF’s annual “Tops in Blue” skill present, the group made a decision to pursue an archive contract, eventually getting with the tiny Hull label. Their debut, “Been SUCH A LONG TIME,” strike retail in November 1957, so when it appeared poised for breakout achievement, Chess Records certified the disk for nationwide distribution, reissuing the one on its Argo subsidiary per month afterwards. In early 1958, “Been SUCH A LONG TIME” reached the R&B Best Five, also crossing to amount 24 over the Billboard pop graph. After comprehensive touring within DJ Alan Freed’s Big Defeat Present, the Pastels came back towards the studio room to cut a follow-up, “YOU DO NOT Like Me Anymore.” The record didn’t match the achievement of its forerunner, however, so when their third Argo discharge, “UP TO NOW Away,” fulfilled the same destiny, the group dissolved in early 1959. Dee Ervin came back to his indigenous NEW YORK and installed a solo profession, credit scoring a 1963 strike along with his cover from the Globe War II-era preferred “Swinging on the Star.”
