The Notting Hillbillies

Following the mega-platinum success of Dire Straits’ 1984 Brothers in Hands LP, the group’s frontman, guitarist extraordinaire Mark Knopfler, opted to temporarily change gears by forming the Notting Hillbillies, a one-off country side task. One of the band’s 1st recruits was Steve Phillips, a fellow guitarist whom Knopfler experienced 1st fulfilled in Yorkshire in 1968 when both males interviewed an area nation and blues musician (also called, curiously plenty of, Steve Phillips). Quickly, both aspiring journalists created the two-man Duolian String Pickers and continuing performing collectively until Knopfler came into university in 1970; after graduating 3 years later on, he relocated to London to start out Dire Straits.
