The N.Y. Hardbop Quintet

This phenomenal group was formed in 1990 being a quartet made up of trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, pianist Keith Saunders, bassist Bim Strasberg, and drummer Eddie Ornowski. In 1991, the music group became a quintet by adding tenor saxophonist Jerry Weldon; Ornowski departed in 1996 and was changed by Clifford Barbaro. Their repertoire and design does adhere to hard bop (style-wise from the Lee Morgan/Hank Mobley period), however the many originals and the new renditions of criteria keep carefully the group from sounding derivative. THE BRAND NEW York Hardbop Quintet performs frequently in (shock) NY, but in addition has toured the Western world Coast many times. Ironically, all their recordings have already been designed for the Swiss TCB label.
