The Music Tapes

Although Music Tapes have emerged primarily being a spinoff in the Elephant 6 music collective, which include bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, the Olivia Tremor Control, as well as the Apples in Stereo, they began because the brainchild of Julian Koster. Being a 16-year-old, Koster conceived of his early recordings, just like the “Silly Putty Symphony” being a surreal soundworld to flee into and tell friends. This inspiration also fueled Koster’s music group at that time, Chocolate U.S.A., which ultimately evolved in to the Elephant 6 tasks, including Neutral Dairy Hotel, where Koster performed like a multi-instrumentalist. When he made a decision to resurrect the Music Tapes in 1995, Koster enlisted assistance from Jeremy Barnes, another person in Neutral Milk Resort. Their first one, Please Listen to Mr. Air travel Control, premiered three years afterwards, and featured a number of noises and classic and contemporary equipment, in addition to pop-up artwork. The 1999 debut record 1st Imaginary Symphony for Nomad acquired a similar visual: a polish cylinder recorder along with a cable recorder were utilized to record it, along with a supplemental comic reserve was also included. 2008 noticed the release from the like-minded Music Tapes for Clouds and Tornadoes, which had taken almost nine years to record, and 2012 heralded the entrance from the Purim’s Shadows (The Dark Travels the planet) EP and the entire length Mary’s Tone of voice.
