The Monks of Doom

Beginning like a part task in 1985 for Camper Van Beethoven users Greg Lisher (guitar), Victor Krummenacher (bass), and Chris Pedersen (drums), Monks of Doom became a full-time music group when David Lowery (who also later on formed Cracker) remaining Camper Van Beethoven following a 1989 album Essential Lime Pie. The addition of Ophelias guitarist David Immergluck curved out the lineup that could go in to the studio room and record the Monks’ 1st recording, the film soundtrack Breakfast time within the Seaside of Deception (1998, Pitch-a-Tent). While missing the catchiness that experienced made Camper Vehicle Beethoven a normal presence within the pop graphs, Monks of Doom continuing to place out smart, irreverent, and ambitious music which echoed the heart of early-’70s pop experimentalists Frank Zappa and Syd Barrett. 1991’s Meridian on Baited Breathing and 1992’s Forgery on IRS also showcase the Monks’ drain mixture of designs, incorporating globe music parts and jazzy electric guitar riffs. 1992’s 10″ picture disk from C/Z Information, The Insect God, proceeds the heart of the sooner albums by having a mini rock and roll opera version of Edward Gorey’s The Insect God and a reward track in the Compact disc edition: a cover of Zappa’s “Who Will be the Human brain Law enforcement?” Their 1993 documenting for IRS, Cosmodemonic Telegraph Firm, will be the last the fact that Monks would released as an organization, though many of the associates continue to interact in various other configurations.
