The Men of Distinction

The initial group referred to as the Guys of Difference — never to be confused with an identically named South Carolina-based outfit — originated from Dunn, NC. During their development in 1969, the Guys of Distinction had been some sort of regional supergroup, made up of associates of such Harnett County-based clothes as Gene Barbour & the Cavaliers as well as the Tymes, who was simply pulling in big crowds for some from the 1960s. Spotting both changing times as well as the potential around him, Harry Drivers, a local skill supervisor and entertainment business owner who had maintained the Cavaliers, place the supergroup jointly. In a way, the Males of Differentiation was the culmination of what functions like the Cavaliers have been targeting, keeping their fundamental R&B audio but painting it on an enormous canvas, like a power display band with employees to extra — rivaling Chicago, Bloodstream, Perspiration & Tears (Tag 2) or Globe, Wind & Open fire in the sheer size of their audio and gaining legendary displays for a lot of the 10 years. Their original employees included Woody Osborne (sax), Lee Everette (acoustic guitar), Billy Wellons (vocals, percussion), Charles Aycock (sax, trumpet), Henry Willis (trumpet), Charles Willis (acoustic guitar), Wayland Jones (keyboards, bass), and Mike Ennis (business lead vocals); Carlie Barbour (acoustic guitar) and Mike Real wood (sax) joined just a little later on, and among the significant people to arrive aboard in the early/middle ’70s was key pad participant/arranger Donald Hobson. The group lasted until 1978, when the people decided to contact it quits, due to an increasing number of them having obtained married and began careers beyond music, though they do keep behind a documented legacy. The South Carolina-based band of the same name offers nothing in connection with the NEW YORK group, who under no circumstances contested the usage of the name at that time. The original Males of Distinction later on reunited beneath the name Harry’s Music group, like a tribute with their late coach and manager.
