Del and Jerry McCoury pursued person professions in bluegrass prior to the Pennsylvania-born siblings teamed up for the 1987 Rounder recording, The McCoury Brothers. Old brother Del experienced performed banjo before switching to acoustic guitar and performing lead with Expenses Monroe’s Blue Lawn Males in 1963-1964. He consequently led his Dixie Pals and documented for both Rounder and Rebel. Jerry sang and performed bass with Crimson Allen as well as the Kentuckians, in addition to with Don Reno and Expenses Harrell. The McCoury Brothers’ single recording together up to now is an excellent close-harmony exposition of bluegrass, rooted within the “sibling duo” tradition.
