The Masterminds

The Masterminds, a Liverpool group, formed in 1964 comprised the string bending Joey Molland (b. Joseph Charles Molland, 21 June 1947, Liverpool, Britain; acoustic guitar/vocals), Chris Findley (b. 10 Oct 1948; keyboards/ vocals), George Cassidy (bass/vocals), Joey Rathbone (drums/vocals) and Dougie Meakin (acoustic guitar/vocals). Meakin was a Bob Dylan fanatic who motivated them to execute his quirky ‘She Belongs To Me’, which presented session guy Jimmy Web page on acoustic guitar. Findley recalls, ‘The Rolling Rocks arrived to the Blue Angel in Liverpool whenever we had been performing ‘She Belongs To Me’. Their supervisor, Andrew [ Loog ] Oldham, was used with just how we had been doing it, therefore he authorized us to his fresh Immediate Information label.’ The b-side was a genuine track, ‘Taken My Like’ (also featuring Web page), which ultimately shows the impact from the Righteous Brothers.
