The Magic Mixture

This UK psychedelic pop band comprised Jim Thomas (guitar/vocals), Jack Collins (drums), Stan Curtis (organ) and Melvyn Hacker (bass). Their lone recording from 1968, THAT IS, is undoubtedly among the better types of the psych pop genre, offering engaging instrumental focus on tracks such as for example ‘(I’m Therefore) Sad’, ‘Desire To Keep’ and ‘Gradually The Day time’. Efforts at humour, notably on ‘Motorbike Music’, were much less successful. Sadly, in keeping with lots of the works on Saga Information in the past due 60s, the recording was badly pressed and circulated in limited amounts. However, residual fascination with the group led to a Compact disc reissue by German label Bat Information in 1987, and a UK reissue on Merlin Information in 1993. Following the music group’s demise Thomas continued to session function, his previous compatriots dropping from the music business.
